Topic: Total

David Friedman, Price Theory: Chapter 4: Marginal Value, Marginal Utility, and Consumer Surplus
Since marginal utility is the slope of total utility, it is high when total utility is rising steeply, zero when total utility is constant, and negative if total utility is falling.
The marginal utility of a dollar is simply the utility of the additional goods we could buy with that dollar; so as income rises, the marginal utility of income falls.
Since the marginal value curve shows the value of a good measured in money, it should shift slightly as the change in that good's price changes the amount we have left to spend on other goods, and hence the marginal utility of money.

JUNE 21, 2001 TOTAL SOLAR ECLIPSE GALLERY
During the totality was obtained this view of the eclipsed sun and the planet Jupiter among the branches of a tree.
These images were taken during June 21, 2001 total solar eclipse to about 5 kms to the south of Landless Corner (Zambia), and to about 8 kms to the North of the central line of the eclipse, with 3 minutes and 33 seconds totality.
Environmental image during totality that reproduces the visual impression of the total eclipse approximately.

Baily’s beads also quickly succumb to the encroaching moon, winking out one or two at a time until totality is fulfilled; the disappearance of the last bead marks the moment of second contact and the beginning of totality.
Unlike Baily’s beads, the diamond ring, for all its spectacle, is not a true phenomenon of totality but a product of the final moments of the pre–totality partial phases and their post–totality resurgence.
They were also seen by Maclaurin from Edinburgh during the annular eclipse of 1 March 1737 and by Williams from Revolutionary War America on 27 October 1780 (see Chapter 1) from just outside the path of totality.

 Brahman
Brahman is the totality of the universe as it is present outside of you;, Atman is the totality of the universe as it is present within you; Brahman is the totality of the world known objectively, Atman is the totality of the world known subjectively.
In the Upanishads, Brahman is not only the principle and creator of all there is, but is also the sum totality of the universe and its phenomena.
The word "brahman" in Sanskrit originally meant "power" and specifically referred to the power of prayer or sacrifice to bring about material change in the world (hence the word brahmin for priest); so that Brahman seems to refer to the power that brings about and changes the physical universe.

Brahman is the totality of the universe as it is present outside of you;, Atman is the totality of the universe as it is present within you; Brahman is the totality of the world known objectively, Atman is the totality of the world known subjectively.
This dual nature of the single divinity or totality of the universe, Brahman and Atman, gets worked out in the following way.
By understanding your true Self, by coming to know one's own undying soul, one then arrives at the knowledge of Brahman itself; the key to understanding the nature of the one unitary principle of the universe is to see one's (undying) self as identical with Brahman: "aham asmi Brahman": I am Brahman.

Dooyeweerd describes the self as the concentration-point of all one's cosmic functions and as a subjective totality which lies at the basis of all philosophical thought presupposing all modes of functioning as well as the coherence of functioning.
Dooyeweerd distinguishes 15 modal aspects within the modal structure, all of which mutually refer to one another and form the coherence which points to and expresses the meaning-totality which in turn points beyond itself toward the Origin.
Dooyeweerd's understanding of reality is, as we have seen in the former chapter, not static but very dynamic "in a diverging and concentrating movement from and to the unity of the totality of meaning, which in its turn expresses the fullness of the divine Origin."

An atom built totality would explain the abundance of thorium 90 and uranium 92 and the depletion of technetium 43 and promethium 61 in the observable universe, because of a purposeful-atom-totality.
The three facts of (1) the homogenous dispersal of the elements from carbon on up (2) the prevalent abundance of hydrogen (3) the maximum age of the observable universe as calculated by the Big Bang model, are mathwise impossible.

The truer theory of solar system formation is seed-mass-dots in the Atom Totality of the Thorium, then Uranium and now Plutonium Atom Totality.
It is a subtheory of the Growing Solar System theory that all planets and stars continually grow from Dirac radioactivity and as they grow larger they eventually get closer to their oldest star forming larger stars or twin stars or multiple stars.

Brahmanical lawgivers developed the theory of defilement and laid a ban on certain kinds of food as being intrinisically unfit for consumption by the twice born or upper castes.

 Marginal Utility
The total utility is irrelevant to the decision to buy or not to buy one more unit of the good.
So we should not look at the total utility but at the "marginal" utility of the good or service.
Economists call the part of utility that is gained or lost (in the decision to buy one more unit) the marginal utility.

 Total lunar eclipse
The totally eclipsed moon is usually brighter than most comparison stars (I expect about magnitude -3 at second and third contacts, and -1.4 at mid-totality, assuming no volcanic dust present), and its brightness needs to be reduced before a direct comparison can be made.
Observations made from the beginning to end of totality will reveal the darkening of the moon as it slips deeper into the umbra, but the most useful observations (for measuring volcanic dust) are those taken near mid-totality.
Richard Keen (Program for Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences (PAOS), University of Colorado) is interested in brightness estimates (total visual magnitude and Danjon L values) of the moon during totality.

In his early works which were written before his conversion to Marxism, the craving for totality was already there.

As I have shown elsewhere, the philosophy of Herman Dooyeweerd (1894-1977) was strongly influenced by the philosophy of totality, a philosophical tradition that includes Othmar Spann, Franz von Baader, Jakob Böhme and Meister Eckhart [ 1 ].
In contrast, a philosophy that is directed to totality simultaneously acknowledges a relation to value and inserts this as a determining motive–in fact as the determining motive–into its view of reality.
This is because reformational philosophy has for the most part rejected Dooyeweerd’s idea of supratemporal totality.

Animus: Daniel J. Selcer, The Discursivity of the Negative: Kojève on Language in Hegel
The catch that makes this activity of separation into a "miraculous" or "absolute" power, Kojève continues, is that these singularities ("constituent elements") are inseparable from the totality which they constitute in that they are material; they are temporally and spatially related to every other element of the totality in which they occur.
17   Again, despite his Leibnizian conception of totality as a seamless and relational network of singularities, Kojève holds that abstraction, and thus extraction from this totality, takes place.
Which is to say that not only will any single (non-absolute) discursive event quail before the negativity of time and history, but also before the negative which constitutes the historicity of a synchronic and relational moment of that history.

Peter Ericson Indeterminism and the Bohm Interpretation of Quantum Mechanics
In Bohm's worldview it cannot be said that either determinism or indeterminism is the ultimate principle; both are abstractions of the totality and both have limited domains of applicability, neither being primary.
Though determinism may dominate on the quantum level, indeterminism may be at work on a deeper level; and even so, ultimately neither determinism nor indeterminism has meaning or validity in the qualitatively and quantitatively infinite totality, the undivided wholeness.
Determinism and indeterminism are limited and only valid and meaningful in certain abstractions from the qualitatively and quantitatively unlimited totality.
