Prison Factories: Slave Labor for the New World Order?
Thousands of state and federal prisoners are currently generating more than $1 billion per year in sales for private businesses, often competing directly with the private sector labor force.
Although prison manufacturing facilities do offer short-term benefits at a time when budgets are strained to the breaking point, the system is ripe for exploitation and abuse by government and corporate entities seeking to cut financial corners.
The Correctional Industries Association predicts that by the year 2000, 30 percent of America's inmate population will labor to create nearly $9 billion in sales for private business interests.

The Labor Dept.'s news that the labor markets generated 337,000 new jobs in October, along with much larger gains in August and September than were reported earlier, suggests consumers are in better shape to withstand higher oil prices and the waning warmth from tax cuts and lower interest rates.

Ford Motor Co. - Nazi Slave labor
Ford Werke A.G., may be liable to its German Ford plant workers if it can be shown that its enormous profits were actually gained by management practices that used forced slave labor under inhuman conditions to produce their vehicles for the Nazis.
Ford's legal counsel, issued a statement saying that it was not responsible for the operation of the plant during wartime, when the percentage of unpaid labor allegedly reached 50%.
The suit, filed as a class action, seeks reasonable payment for the work performed and the disgorgement of unfair profits.

Nothing Sweet: Child Slave Labor in Ivory Coast Cocoa Fields
On October 3, a clarification is made to the Tariff Act of 1930 that affirms that the U.S. Customs Service is to ban entry into the United States of products that are made by forced or indentured child labor.
Also in July, members of the International Cocoa Organization, the international agency that includes cocoa-producing countries, are expected to ratify a resolution to investigate “criminal labor activity,” particularly child slavery and develop a plan to eradicate the problem.
The U.S. Customs Service, upon a finding of forced or indentured child labor, may issue detention orders, disallowing the product or produce entry into the U.S. In 2000, this clarification is made a permanent correction by Congress.

 National Labor Committee
Commerce Department records show that the sweatshirts entered the U.S. with a landed Customs value of $13.08, which is the total cost of production, including all materials, accessories, direct and indirect labor, shipping costs and profit to the factory—including the dictators’ cut and the Beimar company’s.
If we add a 100 percent premium on top of this direct labor cost, we can more than account for all indirect labor costs and factory overhead.
The NBA should agree to meet with the National Labor Committee and the No More Sweatshops Coalition to discuss ways to help guarantee that future NBA licensing is conditioned upon strict adherence to core, internationally recognized human and worker rights standards.
