 Radio Authority Announces Public Interest Determination For Acquisition Of Border Radio Holdings Ltd By Capital Radio Plc
The Authority's determination is that the joint-holding of Sun FM and Century Radio could not be expected to operate against the public interest on the understanding that the original undertakings given by Border Radio Holdings are maintained by Capital Radio plc.
Under the terms of the Broadcasting Act 1996, a company cannot hold a local radio licence which shares an audience with another radio station on the same waveband unless the Authority determines that the proposed arrangement could not be expected to operate against the public interest.
Border Radio Holdings Ltd controls two overlapping FM licences in the North East area, which broadcast as Century Radio and Sun FM.

Regarding Radio Marti, the report states that several employees did not have sufficient knowledge of Cuba required by the agency's hiring authority.
Intended to eventually be responsible for Radio Marti, the incorporation allows RBC, Inc., to receive private funds before it is authorized by Congress, much as the Board for International Broadcasting was created before Radio Free Europe and Radio Liberty.
Radio Marti's program director Yale Newman states at this time that the station will be located in Washington, DC, to keep it from becoming a Cuban exile station, but it will have bureaus in Florida and New York, with correspondents in the Midwest, Southwest, and West Coast regions.

Section 53 provides for the operation by the Broadcasting Commission of Ireland of a scheme of capital grants to local and community radio stations in respect of their transmission costs to be funded from Exchequer moneys up to a maximum total of £500,000 to be provided to the Commission by the Minister.
That Commission had been charged with recommending on the practicality of establishing a television service on the basis that no charge should fall on the Exchequer and that effective control of televised programmes must be exercisable by an Irish public authority.
Section 30 provides that the Broadcasting Commission of Ireland may authorise the television programme service contractor, that is TV3, to provide additional broadcasting services by means of a variation made by it to the contract which has been entered into under the Radio and Television Act, 1988, in respect of its existing service.
