Another argument for privatization is that to privatize a company which was non-profitable (or even generated severe losses) when state-owned means taking the burden of financing it off the shoulders and pockets of taxpayers, as well as freeing some national budget resources which may be subsequently used for something else.
Privatization in the absence of a transparent market system may lead to assets being held by an oligarchy of a few very wealthy people at the expense of the general population.
Private companies make a profit by persuading consumers to buy their products and not the products of their competitors.

The revenues from privatization helped the Thatcher government cut income taxes over the decade from a bottom rate of 33 percent down to 25 percent, and from a top rate of 98 percent down to 40 percent.

Romania plans to sell BCR, which accounts for 26 percent of the assets in the banking system, to a strategic investor by early 2006.
Propsective bidders are expected to submit their letters of intent at the AVAS headquarters by May 6.
