Private sector - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The private sector of a nation's economy consists of those entities which are not controlled by the state - i.e., a variety of entities such as private firms and companies, corporations, private banks, non-governmental organisations.
But not controlled by the government does not mean that the government does not impose taxes and other conditions on it.

AllRefer.com - Nicaragua - Privatization and the Private Sector Nicaraguan Information Resource
Much of the Nicaraguan private sector remained on the sidelines in 1990, waiting for the government to lure it with promises of security for its investments and of repair of private property at public expense.
The private sector also hoped for a return of nationalized property and privatization of government assets still dominated by representatives of the Sandinista government.
By election day 1990, the Nicaraguan private sector held high expectations that it would benefit from a change in government and that it would be compensated for the injustices it felt it had suffered during the Sandinista years.

Private military contractor - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Some critics consider private military contractors to be mercenaries legitimizing their trade behind the veil of a corporate entity.
However, many feel this is a troubling trend, since these private companies are not directly accountable to a legislative body and may cost more than providing the same functions within the military.
In theory, private contracting creates competitive pressure to reduce costs, but in practice the bidding process can be so opaque and distorted by favoritism that it becomes an empty formality...

Factsheet - The IMF and the Private Sector
More concerted forms of private sector involvement could be required if the financing requirement is large and the member has poor prospects of regaining market access in the near future, or if the member has a debt burden that appears unsustainable in the medium term.
The IMF is examining the important and complex issues associated with involving the private sector in forestalling and resolving financial crises.
Under the framework discussed, private sector involvement could be ensured primarily through reliance on the Fund's traditional catalytic role if the member's financing requirements are moderate, or even if the financing requirements are large, but the member has good prospects of rapidly regaining market access on appropriate terms.

As the private sector becomes more involved in areas previously held by the public sector (particularly in infrastructure) there is a need for long-term finance for private-sector operations.

Although no hard data on investment in the health sector are available (except government investment), the wide-spread setting up of large, hi-tech, corporate and other hospitals and diagnostic centres suggests that a considerable proportion of investment is made in the health care sector.
This is being spread mainly to discredit the public sector and to keep away all efforts at introducing some minimum and useful regulations over the quality of care and pricing in the private sector.
The fact is that health care delivery in the private sector in India is perhaps the least controlled sector in the world today.
