The Canadian Labour <b>Congressb> is a national UNION CENTRAL founded on 23 April 1956 from the merger of the CANADIAN <b>CONGRESSb> OF LABOUR and the TRADES AND LABOR <b>CONGRESSb> OF CANADA.
Provincial and territorial federations of labour and municipal labour councils co-ordinate comparable programs of CLC affiliates.
In 1961 the CLC and the CO-OPERATIVE COMMONWEALTH FEDERATION leaders joined to form the NEW DEMOCRATIC PARTY, a link that has been maintained ever since.

Along with the endemic malaise of Nigeria's non-oil sectors, the economy continues to witness massive growth of "informal sector" economic activities, estimated by some to be as high as 75% of the total economy.
Although the trade balance overwhelmingly favors Nigeria, thanks to oil exports, a large portion of U.S. exports to Nigeria is believed to enter the country outside of the Nigerian Government's official statistics, due to importers seeking to avoid Nigeria's excessive tariffs.
State and local governmental bodies demand access to this "windfall" revenue, creating a tug-of-war between the federal government, which seeks to control spending, and state governments desirous of augmented budgets preventing the government from making provision for periods of lower oil prices.

A challenge to Canada& system by the medical profession and some right-of-centre provincial governments evoked a strong response from the Canadian Labour <b>Congressb> through the formation of a vigorous citizens’ coalition.
McDermott played a prominent role in articulating the key elements of the CLC program for economic and social reform and was instrumental in mobilizing the resources of the Canadian labour movement in combatting wage controls and wage concessions in the public and private sectors.
