The Development Bank was the city-state's largest source of long-term finance, including equity and venture capital financing, medium- and long-term loans, and guarantees.
Singapore established the Asian dollar market as the Asian equivalent of the Eurodollar market in 1968 when the local branch of the United States-based Bank of America secured government approval to borrow deposits of nonresidents, mainly in foreign currencies, and use them to finance corporate activities in Asia.
All banks in Singapore were administered by the Monetary Authority of Singapore and were required to hold a statutory minimum cash balance against their deposit and other specified liabilities with the authority.

In an effort to improve parliamentary scrutiny of DFID's multilateral expenditure, the Committee invites memoranda on the Asian Development Bank and the Caribbean Development Bank, assessing their effectiveness against their stated objectives and their role in realising the international development targets.
The Department for International Development has also recently informed the Committee that negotiations on the replenishment of the Caribbean Development Bank's Special Development Fund are due to start shortly.
Negotiations on the latest replenishment of the Asian Development Fund (ADF-VIII) were concluded in December 2000 and the Government will shortly be approaching Parliament for approval of the UK's contribution to the Fund.

The Islamic Financial Services Board (IFSB) is an association of central banks, monetary agencies and inter-governmental international organizations that have an explicit mandate for promoting Islamic finance.

 Gov't eyes sale of up to 49% of Land Bank
He said he preferred that Land Bank shares be sold to the likes of the World Bank, the Japan Bank for International Cooperation and the Asian Development Bank, rather than to private commercial banks.
He added that Land Bank could also merge with government-owned Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP), which, like Land Bank, is among the 10 largest banks in the country in terms of assets.
Land Bank has been hoping to raise its capital to 50-60 billion pesos, from 22 billion pesos at present, he told reporters.
